MUSICAL THEATRE MELODIES - 22nd January - "Our Miss Gibbs" & "The Quaker Girl"

Rob Morrison's next Musical Theatre Melodies broadcast on Tuesday, 22nd January at 9 p.m. EDT will feature A Tribute to Gertie Millar with two musicals associated with the star of Edwardian British Musical Comedy, commencing with a 110th anniversary presentation of Ivan Caryll & Lionel Monckton’s Our Miss Gibbs, (lyrics by Adrian Ross & Percy Greenbank), from a 1946 episode of the Australian radio series "Musical Comedy Theatre" starring Queenie Ashton, Joy Hoodless, Jack Lumsdaine and The Big Four, with narration by Walter Pym; plus an orchestral medley conducted by Frank Westfield and additional songs from the score recorded by original 1909 London cast members, Gertie Millar and George Grossmith Jnr.

This will be followed by Lionel Monckton’s The Quaker Girl, (lyrics by Adrian Ross & Percy Greenbank), from a 1946 episode of "Musical Comedy Theatre" starring Norma Beattie, Lorna Ellis, Harry Grunden, Jack Lumsdaine and The Big Four, with narration by Peter Bathurst; plus additional songs from the score recorded by Marilyn Hill Smith and Peter Morrison, Neil Williams and original 1910 London cast members, Gertie Millar and Joseph Coyne.

The programme will be introduced (via Skype from London) by British Musical Theatre historian, archivist and author - Rex Bunnett.
