Rob Morrison (updated 1/8/10)

Rob has been heard over the airwaves of 96.5 Inner-FM since 1992, when he began as a regular guest on the "Local Theatre" programme broadcast on Sunday afternoons from 4 - 5 p.m. In 1993 Rob graduated to the other side of the radio panel as a presenter of his own "Local Theatre" time-slot - a role that he continues to this day hosting the show every fourth week.

In addition, Rob hosts his own weekly light music programme "Kaleidoscope" which has been on the air since late 2001 and is broadcast every Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. As its name suggests the show features an ever-changing, wide-ranging eclectic selection of middle-of-the-road light orchestral and instrumental music, film music, band music, songs from stage and screen, musicals and operettas and popular and classical vintage vocal recordings from the great singers of yesteryear.

A member of the "Concert Hall" team since 2001, Rob can be heard every fourth week presenting featured Operettas and Comic Operas in the Tuesday evening timeslot between 9 - 11 p.m. (A separate web-page lists the operetta and comic operas broadcast by Rob to date plus those scheduled for future air-play. Rob is continually adding to his collection of English-language recordings of such works and he would be pleased to hear from listeners who may have any suggestions for future broadcasts or would like to hear encore presentations of past programmes.)

With a background in science and biophysics, Rob is equally at home in the performing arts, having made his stage debut with a local Youth Theatre company in 1975 at the age of 14 playing an elderly priest in a pantomime. Since that time Rob has performed in over 70 stage productions running the gamut from musicals to revues, concerts and plays. With a personal preference for Musical Theatre, Rob has lent his bass-baritone singing voice and dancing abilities to a diverse range of character roles in such musicals as "Finian's Rainbow" (as Og the Leprechaun), "The Wizard of Oz" (Tin-man), "Godspell" (John the Baptist/Judas), "Sweeney Todd" (Judge Turpin), "Showboat" (Capt'n Andy), "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" (Reverend Crisparkle), "Jekyll & Hyde" (General Lord Glossop) and "Anything Goes" (Lord Evelyn Oakleigh) amongst dozens of others, for such local groups as Foote Street/ Footlights/ Phoenix/ Heidelberg Theatre Companies and Nova Music Theatre. Occasional T.V. work in the late 1990s included being cast as an extra in "Neighbours", a victim in "Australia's Most Wanted" and a courtroom policeman in "Seachange".

Rob's favourite composers in the field of Musical Theatre include Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Lionel Monckton, Noel Coward, Ivor Novello and Vivian Ellis - whose collective works, (needless to say), are a regular feature of his broadcasts.

A passion for the comic operas of Messrs. Gilbert and Sullivan has also led Rob to be a regular contributor of articles and historical information to the Internet-based websites The Gilbert & Sullivan Archive and A Gilbert and Sullivan Discography

He has also contributed information to the Internet-based Edward German Discography website and, as a member of Theatre Heritage Australia, has written and researched numerous articles for the organisation's quarterly newsletter On Stage.
