The CBAA are celebrating a big birthday this year! It’s been 50 years since early community broadcasters gathered to form the Public Broadcasting Association of Australia (PBAA), which would later become the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA).
At the time could they have foreseen a sector with over 500 broadcast services, reaching over 5 million listeners? Maybe not, but their foresight helped unify a fledgling movement of community broadcasters that’s now one of the biggest and best in the world.
The CBAA has put together an article reflecting on the history of community broadcasting, featuring a video by past President John Martin OAM that includes figures from across our volunteer sector to reflect on our shared story.
