Listen in to the world’s longest continuous Scout Radio Show

We bring you stories from the world of Scouts via our weekly radio show, on social media, and on our podcast. Tune in on Sundays and hear our Youth-led team share their tales of outdoor adventure, international friendship & leadership. We regularly feature guest stars from the Scouting community ranging from Joey Scouts at 5-8 years old, all the way to Rover Scouts at 18-26 years old!

Scouting Around acknowledges the Wurundjeri woi wurrung people as the traditional owners of the land on which we broadcast, we pay respect to elders past, present, and future. We’re grateful to be sharing the land with earth’s oldest storytelling culture, and commit ourselves to reconciliation with Australia’s first nations people.

Our History

Scouting Around on 3XY advert in Victorian Scout 1949

Originally broadcast on 3XY in 1949, Scouting Around started off as a humble showcase of local Scouting talent, stories and news.
Our first presenter & producer was Tom Jones, from 9th Brunswick Scout Group. He put Scouting on the map in the local entertainment scene, with his involvement in theatre and broadcasting. He went on to expand Scouting’s reach with a television segment on GTV9 about Scouts, and mentored a young 9th Brunswick Scout by the name of Bert Newton to eventually become an entertainment powerhouse.

In the early 90s, Scouting Around moved to its current home and was presented & produced by local District Support Leader Trevor Dagley for over 20 years, and he stayed involved in the show right up to his sad passing in 2015. Trevor was a former Scout at 9th Brunswick Scout Group, the birthplace of Scouting Around and Melbourne Gang Show. His commitment to service and youth voice was unparalleled in the Scouting community! He invited local Scouts to share stories with their friends on the airwaves, including with a young Laurence Williams, our current Producer.

Between 2014 and 2019, Scouting Around was presented & produced by local Scout Leaders and Rovers. Peter Baranow, Peter Duckworth, Cleve Cole Rovers & many guests held the mic (and the fort) up until 2020, when the show took a brief hiatus. In 2021, the show was refreshed with a team of passionate, local Rover Scouts, and every week they bring you the Scouting stories you love.
