Melbourne’s Inner FM serves the cities of Banyule, Manningham and Darebin. We are also heard over a much wider listening area, with a listening potential of over 425,000 people in our community.
Inner FM commenced full time broadcasting in December 1990. Since then, the station has emerged with its own unique personality and sound as it continues to develop and diversify. Our format is a mixture of magazine-style and music programs, appealing to all tastes and age groups. We have many special interest programs including multicultural, service clubs, community groups and legal news.
Inner FM in the Community
As part of our programming charter , we enjoy great success with outside broadcasts. These include Twilight Sounds, Banyule Carols by Candlelight, the Manningham Carols by Candlelight and Rotary Manningham Family Festival with the Walk for Youth Mental Health. We also broadcast the open day at the Jazz Museum and other community events.
The Volunteers Behind Inner FM
We have over 70 volunteers involved in the operation of the station. We are also very lucky to have volunteers from local schools and universities who come to us wanting to help out.
We are always looking for anyone who wants to get involved in radio. The running of the station is coordinated by our Committee of Management who meet once a month plus many other “working groups” who help keep 96.5 Inner FM on the air.
Help Support Inner FM
The revenue for the station comes from sponsorship and listener membership payments. We do not receive funding from any government bodies and we are constantly looking at ways to supplement the costs of running the station. We do however receive small grants from councils and the Community Broadcasting Foundation to allow us to replace expensive vital broadcasting equipment. If you would like to become a sponsor or member to help keep 96.5 Inner FM on the air please visit the sponsorship or membership page and any financial assistance is greatly appreciated.
