Tomorrow (Wednesday 10 December), 96.5 Inner FM officially turns 35, marking more than three decades since we commenced full-time broadcasting in 1990.

Inner FM began life in November 1987, when a group of local residents held a meeting to discuss the formation of a community radio station in our region. Several of these founding members are still involved today.

Originally known as North East Community Radio, our first test broadcast took place in late February 1988 from Heidelberg Town Hall, lasting one week. Another week-long broadcast was conducted in July of the same year.

After several further test broadcasts, the Australian Broadcasting Authority (now known as the Australian Communications and Media Authority) granted us a full-time licence on 7 December 1990.

Over the years, Inner FM has welcomed many presenters, programs, and members, with Kevin Trask’s β€˜That’s Entertainment’ still on the air every Sunday from 12β€―pm after all these years.

We would like to thank all presenters and members who have been involved with Inner FM over the past 35 years for your support in keeping us on air. We look forward to many more years to come!
