Bill Gosstray was one of the early members of 96.5 Inner FM from the days of test transmissions in the late 1980’s.

Sadly, Bill Gosstray passed away on the 8th of October at the age of 92.

At the time of the opening of our radio station Bill was the Mayor of Preston.  He was one of the local council mayors to cut the ribbon to officially open our station for full time broadcasting in December of 1990.

Bill was one of our popular on air presenters. He teamed up with the late brother of Kevin Trask, Jack Trask to present the award winning show Top Hat White Tie and Tails every Thursday at 11.00am. A regular listener to the show was Australian actor Geoffrey Rush.

He was married to Kevin’s sister, Marie Gosstray and they lived in Reservoir.  Marie and Bill hosted many memorable BBQ’s at their home as fund raisers for 96.5 Inner FM. They were fantastic events with some of the top Melbourne artists coming along to perform.  Bill also served on our committee for several years.

Bill had not enjoyed the best of health since the passing of Marie and he retired from broadcasting in 2013. In recent years Bill has been in aged care.

Sympathy to their two sons Ken and Graeme and all the family.

Bill was very proud of his association with 96.5 Inner FM and he is fondly remembered by our listeners.

The funeral for Bill Gosstray will take place on Monday 16th October at 11am at the Crick Chapel, Fawkner Crematorium.

Thank you to Kevin Trask for his contribution to this post.
